Established in 2011, Elvi Design specialises in high quality, hand made, sophisticated wedding dress and gowns. Demonstrating a passion for lace, silk and couture, Elvi Design focuses on creating unique, vintage style bridal and evening wear.
Born from an inter generational passion for textiles, Elvi Design pays homage to yesteryear with finely detailed, elegant wedding gowns. Inspired by the gritty, delicate beauty of old black and white photographs, the fine details of antique crockery, and carefully selected patterns of natural flora, the label fills a niche gap in the Western Australian bridal market.
Elvi Design is a must see stall at Perth’s boutique wedding fairs, including ‘One Fine Day’, ‘Wedding Upmarket’ and the ‘First Comes Love’ alternative bridal fair. The label will be showing again at this years events.
Wedding Dress Designer Sandra’s aim is to create special memories for brides by creating unique evening wear that fuses classic style with modern, luxurious fabrics. Celebrating femininity, while fulfilling the desires of the modern woman, her designs are understated, yet elegant.
Coming from a family of designers, Sandra’s journey into fashion was a natural path to follow. The label itself is the namesake of her Finnish grandmother, Elvi, who passed her skills, knowledge and passion on to her daughter, Sandra’s mother Birgitta, who passed them on to her. Sandra was just eight when she started hand sewing her own clothes for her dolls, and spent much her youth creating dancing costumes.
Sandra graduated top of her class at the Western Australian Institute of Fashion and Textiles in 2006, and was awarded Gown of the Year and the Merge Award. Her designs also won her the STM Supreme Student award at the Western Australian Fashion Design awards the same year, also receiving awards in the evening wear, sleepwear and lingerie categories.
Passionate about evening wear and couture, Sandra gained work experience with Collette Dinnigan in Sydney, and has also worked under Ruth Tarvydas and Galleria Couture.
In 2007 Sandra entered the industry professionally, working as a Design and Production Assistant at Morrison in Fremantle. Her time there gave her important insight into the fashion sector and how to run a family business. In 2009 she began working with another family business involved in fashion jewellery, where she increased her knowledge of customer service, account management, marketing and product development.
