Let’s throw a party!

My fiance proposed on the Easter long weekend in April, we’ve been together for five years.

It didn’t take long for us to start planning the engagement party. My fiance’s parents offered to host the party at their home in Kalamunda and we set the date for early June. This was our checklist to create our perfect night-

  • Guest List
  • Food
  • Drinks
  • Dairy free engagement cake… is that even possible?
  • Music
  • Decorations/Blooms?
  • Hire equipment (trestle tables, glasses…)
  • What do we wear?
  • Outdoor heaters

Thankfully we have some talented friends, we organised catering through our friend Brad at Ole Paella. We had rustic tapas to start and paella as the night went on. Brad catered really well for our vegetarian friends and my lactose intolerance. My gorgeous friend Jess (who you might have seen in one of our wedding frocks) creates the most beautiful cakes and made our engagement cake. It was phenomonal, tiers of dairy free vanilla cupcakes topped with a dairy free white chocolate & raspberry mud cake with a real floral topper.

I had so much fun putting together the decorations for the party, my bestie helped me create DIY lanterns and decorate jars with ribbons and crochet lace. Sandy from Podz Florist, in Kalamunda, sourced our delightful blooms. We had tulips, proteas, peonies… in white and pink hues set against some native greens. The flowers ended up lasting over two weeks, very resiliant blooms!

I’ll let the photos explain the rest of the night. I’d have to say the highlight of my night was my fiance reciting a humourous/romantic poem. I had no idea he had it in him!

Swan Valley Open Day 8th July 2012

I’m a bride-to-be that is still on the hunt for the perfect venue. When we first got engaged, I panicked and looked everywhere. We’re hoping to marry in November 2013, I quickly discovered that this time of the year is in high demand, by not only weddings but also Christmas functions. As time passes, we’ve relaxed a lot. We’ve decided we don’t want a huge wedding and we want to keep it ‘real’. We have a few pre-requisites…

  • timber floors
  • a simple, open space
  • nice scenery – water, greenery??
  • option to get married close-by
  • good food & drinks (doesn’t have to be fancy but needs to be decent – fiance is a bit of a foodie’

Anyways, the hunt is still on and I’ll be heading to the Swan Valley on Sunday with my best friend to scout potential venues. It’s the Swan Valley Wedding Open Day, so lots of wineries and cafes will be opening their doors for the day to show off their venue. I’m hoping to check out Sandalford, Faber Vineyard and Rosehill Country Club.

I’ll keep you posted!
