Gemma and Chris married in their hometown of Clyde, New Zealand. They planned a beautiful rustic wedding from afar with the help of their family and friends.
Gemma was looking for a gown that no one else would have. We created a soft, romantic wedding gown with a detailed lace bodice and a floaty silk georgette skirt.
Here, Gemma reflects on her special day…
My favourite part was walking down the isle to see my spunky (soon to be) husband and also getting pampered with hair and makeup. I honestly loved all of it.
I wanted to be a Gemma bride. That means I really wanted to be me, not fake, not too made up. I love the vintage theme.
The most important thing was that Chris and I had time together. It’s so overwhelming with the amount of people around you all day and I really wanted to make sure we just stopped and shared the moments together.
My wedding dress made me feel like I should be on the cover of a magazine. It fit perfectly and was so comfortable to wear. I loved every part of the dress and feel so lucky that I got to design it and have something noone else would have.
Elvi Design was amazing in helping me design and make my dream dress. It was love at first sight with them. They made the experience really easy. I also loved our photographer. She was so professional but fun at the same time. We were her last wedding for the season so she tried lots of new things with our photos.
When planning a wedding make sure you stay true to who you and your partner are. Chris and I are fun loving and we really wanted our wedding to be fun and memorable.

It’s pretty special when you get the opportunity to make a friend’s wedding dress. I still remember Lisa coming to watch one of my student fashion shows. She’s been a friend for a really long time, way before Elvi was even born!
We created soft and delicate lace wedding gown for Lisa. The gown featured a fitted bodice with a lace overlay that formed cap sleeves and an illusion neckline. The a-line skirt also had a lace overlay that created a gorgeous train.
Lisa and Russell married at Darlington Estate in the Perth Hills, they held a gorgeous lunch time reception for their friends and family. I was lucky enough to attend (you’ll find a sneaky photo of me at the bottom of the post).
Here, Lisa reminisces about her wedding day…
The end of the official ceremony when every one came forward to congratulate us & we could relax with our friends & family.
We were lucky to book the beautiful Darlington Estate Winery. We love the natural bush setting & it made our photos beautiful.
Relaxed and down-to-earth. I wanted to make sure I didn’t take it all so seriously that I couldn’t enjoy myself.
Try not to stress too much. Things don’t always go to plan (it rained all day during our wedding), but as long as you get to the end of the day & you’re officially married & you’ve had a good time then nothing else really matters.
Surround yourself with suppliers who suit your personality. I was really lucky to work with people who were very professional, but not too full on & that really suited my style.
Beautiful. And as much as I loved it on the day I love the dress even more in the photos – the detail in the lace work is more stunning every time I look at it. Thanks Elvi!!

The August Wedding Upmarket was one of the best and that’s saying something because we’ve been doing this bridal fair since 2011! It was such a great day meeting with lots of new brides and catching up with so many talented local wedding vendors. My little set-up was styled by my dear friend Jess from The Butcher, The Baker, The Stylist & Creator, vintage props by Curio Warehouse and made pretty with blooms created by Jane at Ivy Flowers. Our delicate lace gowns looked so pretty with the light behind them. Thanks for the top spot Wedding Upmarket!
We also had two lovely models wearing our gowns for the day, thank you Davina (a past Elvi bride) and Michelle. It was great to catch up with you both! There is a lot of work involved in preparing the models, so I’d like to thank the wonderful hair and make-up stylists involved Make Up By Kristy and Margareth Hair & Make-up, Willie Creek Pearls for providing the jewellery and Botanica Naturalis for the dreamy bouquets.
If you didn’t make it to this event, keep an eye out, Wedding Upmarket is sure to host another event next May!
